Gdańsk, Poland
After we drove in a taxi for 45 minutes from the port of Gdynia we arrived in Gdańsk. There was some run going on and our taxi driver, with a little help from some random little old lady walking around the city, was able to sidestep a few barricades. It was awesome! This little lady just moved the barricade for our driver like it was nothing. That was when I fell in love with the Polish!
I love these two pictures (above and below)! We had just gotten out of the taxi and Emi followed Kenneth to this fountain. This isn't anything 'special', special as in it doesn't show up in the Rick Steves book, and yet it is beautiful and so characteristic of Europe.
This is inside a red-brick building used as a Torture House, but a lovely Amber Museum. Ironic? Absolutely!
She is in trouble for asking for too many souvenirs, so we are punishing her
Eating a pastry in the town square of Gdansk, Poland. Life doesn't get much better than this!
Emi was taking a picture of the pirate ship, so naturally I took a picture of her
This is our 'Kenneth Sandwich'. Grandpa Kenneth and baby Kenneth sandwiching Miles. I guess one could also call it a 'Miles Sandwich'. Emi thought she was so clever when she came up with it. I love that girl!
In front of The Crane (Żuraw) from the 15th century
This is one of the many souvenirs we got. It is a bird whistle. You pour water inside the bird and when you blow into the whistle part it chirps and sounds just like a little bird. These were everywhere!
Can you tell we are tourists? My orange raincoat doesn't stick out at all!
We bought a Gdansk watercolor from a street vender in the market square similar to this mans. I can't remember if it was this man we bought it from but it was so neat to actually see him in the middle of drawing a picture. Emi was fascinated!
Every kids loves a puppy!
And yet another puppy. Kenneth was playing hide and seek with this puppy. I'm not quite sure if the dog knew what was going on, but Kenneth was having a blast!
